The Cinderella “Zolushka” UOK installation for improving the quality grade of groats and cleaning plant seeds belongs to the grain cleaning machines category. It can be used for:

  • cleaning seeds of field crops (millet, vetch, mustard, rapeseed, oil radish, etc.) from weed impurities;
  • improving the quality grade of polished millet (GOST 572-60) by removing defective (broken) millet grains, seeds of wild and cultivated plants, as well as other weed impurities. The installation allows the production of top-grade millet from third, second, and first-grade millet.

The separator consists of a frame (1) on which are mounted:

  • a cleaning unit,
  • a raw material feed unit (4),
  • a receiving hopper (5) with an exhaust column (6).

The cleaning unit consists of a multi-channel spiral chute (2) and a distributor (3), used to separate the cleaned product streams from the waste.

The raw material feed unit is designed to load the raw product into the receiving hopper.

The exhaust column is used to remove light impurities before feeding the cleaned product onto the spiral chute.

The designers of Ukr.Agro-service employed a simple and effective operating principle of the “snake” spiral separator, which separates the commodity product and impurities under the action of gravitational and centrifugal forces.

Separation at UOK is based on three characteristics of the raw material: mass, shape, and coefficient of friction. If the material to be cleaned and the impurities differ even slightly in one of these parameters, such products can be separated with a high degree of cleanliness using the separator.

The operation principle of the separator is illustrated by the cleaning of millet. Other types of raw materials are cleaned similarly on the equipment. The separator operates as follows.

Pre-cleaned millet, free from light and large impurities, is fed into the receiving hopper by the raw material feed unit, which is installed above the multi-channel spiral chute. The millet is evenly distributed over the spiral tracks and, under the force of gravity, is carried into a rotational screw motion. The parameters of the spiral are selected so that the good quality millet grains, due to centrifugal forces, exit the tracks and fall into the corresponding compartments of the distributor. Foreign impurities remain on the surface of the tracks and, upon reaching the lower level of the spiral chute, are discharged through the appropriate outlet of the distributor.

  • High degree of cleaning. Excellent performance in the main function – maximum removal of impurities with minimal loss of good quality raw material. For example, when enriching “polished millet” from third grade to the highest grade, the loss of good quality kernel does not exceed 2.5% of its total quantity. When cleaning seeds on a spiral separator, it is possible to reduce the percentage of impurities to tenths of a percent. Such a degree of cleaning is comparable only to manual sorting of the cleaned product. For example, when cleaning oil radish seeds from field bindweed seeds, the contamination was reduced from 1% to 0.15%, that is, there were 130 field bindweed seeds per 1 kg of oil radish seeds, which is 70 seeds less than required by GOST.
  • Low operating costs. The minimal level of expenses associated with the operation of the separator is predetermined by low energy consumption, absence of quickly wearing parts, and low labor intensity during operation maintenance.
  • Technological multifunctionality. At grain processing plants specializing in millet production, units can be integrated into equipment lines and used both as machines for preliminary cleaning of raw materials (cleansing of millet), and as machines for final cleaning of the end product (cleaning millet). Separators are irreplaceable for the finishing of mustard and rapeseed seeds to the GOST requirements for impurity content, such as the seeds of curly dock and field forget-me-not, among others. By individual order, the separator can be modified for the separation of binary crop mixtures (vetch-wheat, etc.).
  • Reliability and durability. The equipment’s simple design ensures its high reliability and durability. This feature allows for a 24-month warranty on installations.
